Italik Sponsor 1st Scriven Scouts in Knaresborough Bed Race

Italik proudly sponsored the 1st Scriven Scout Group to victory in the Great Knaresborough Bed Race. Great News 1st Scriven Scouts won the junior race coming in 32nd overall in a time of 17 minutes 50 seconds.

The race was held on 12th June in Knaresborough, organised by the Knaresborough Lions who aim to raise £80k for charity. The Bed Race is an annual event made world famous by its riot of colour and pageantry, the courage and endurance of its teams, and the glorious eccentricity of its entrants.

90 beds in total ran this year from far and wide, including a teams from Germany and the US Navy. The race involves a parade of decorated beds (based on a theme) around the town after which the beds are stripped down for the big race. 6 people run pushing the bed and 1 person has to sit on as a passenger. This year’s theme for the parade was ‘occupations’. The scouts went for ‘construction workers’. Italik’s customer JN Bentley generously provided high visibility jackets to the scouts.

The 2 mile course sees the teams careering around Knaresborough and includes running up the infamous Castle Ings and finishes with an icy crossing of the river Nidd (yes you have to swim and yes the bed has to float).

Overall a total of 30 cubs and scouts paraded with the bed all dressed up road workers with home-made signs. The bed was turned into a long section of road with a hole in the middle of it and it looked fantastic - Well done Cubs and Scouts !
